Snow Snow and more Snow

(isn't all that green beautiful <3)

All this snow is making me stir crazy, being in the house with our extremely long winters makes it challenging to plan a garden, i have been spending my time in the house baking and cooking only venturing out into the cold to shovel.

One of the steps i wanted to take towards becoming a more self sufficient family is to make our own bread, luckily for me i was given a bread maker years ago that is now making its permanent residence on my counter.

Our current go to loaf is a Sweet Butter Bread recipe, extremely delicious how ever it is a little on the heavier side so i find you have to cut it very thinly.

With the warmer weather we are supposed to get his week i have started to germinate my sun flower seeds and will be building my compost bin this week as well!

But my laundry is waiting for me.... and so is S (yes he is finally home... for 4 short days), So i will post some more updates once this darn snow is gone!

The humblest of beginnings.

With a growing family and a questionable economy everyone is looking for little solutions to help make ends meet. 2016 was a challenging year for our family with a slow down in work for my other half (S) and a very active little guy (E) playing hockey and my ongoing health struggles we have had to find ways to be a lot more creative in our household for saving money. S had to go away for work to another province, and i was finally able to return to work after almost 2 months of being unable to do so but at a much lower salary than we are used to. So we have started to embark on our own little homesteading journey, doing as much as we can with the limited space we have while living in the city.

This blog is our journey which i am sure will be FULL of adventures as we work towards becoming as self sustaining as possible. I cannot wait to share this part of our lives with all of you and am very excited to learn and share my knowledge with all of you!

S and i both come from farm family backgrounds, and i am so thankful for the support we have to help us reach our self sustaining goals!!

First steps we are taking this week is to bring some of the potted plants in from outside in hopes that they will thaw out. I have also started a bit of a compost container while i wait for my friend to get us a few pallets so S can build the compost for me while he is home this weekend.

We are jumping in with both feet!
